NTU alumni shine at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Published: 14/08/2024
Our amazing alumni did us all proud at the games, which concluded on Sunday 11 August.
NTU had three alumni competing in Paris:

Adam Burgess, Team GB - Canoeing
BSc Sport Science and Management
Adam graduated in 2014 and was a canoe scholar during his time at NTU. He won his first Olympic medal on Tuesday 29 July, claiming silver in the men's canoe singles finals.
Talking to BBC Sport, he said: This is a moment I’ve dreamed of all my life. There’s been so many times in races where I’ve not taken my opportunity and where a mistake put me off the podium, or turned into more mistakes. To see me go into first with just a few boats to go was absolutely magic."

Nick Park, Team GB – Hockey
BSc Sport Science and Management
Nick was a member of the NTU Men’s Hockey Club between 2018 – 2021 as a player in our First team and NTU Sport Scholar.
Team GB won their first game against Spain, 4-0 - with Nick scoring the first goal.
The team’s journey continued up until the quarter-finals, where they lost to India 4-2 in the shoot-out after drawing 1-1 in normal time.

Kyle Marshall, Ireland – Hockey
BSc (Hons) Financial Mathematics (Sandwich)
Kyle has played in over 50 matches for Ireland's international team already. He was part of the NTU Men’s Hockey Club between 2017 – 2023 as a player in our First team and was an NTU Sport Scholar.
Ireland were unlucky not to make it through to the knock-out stages, with narrow defeats to Australia, Argentina, and eventual bronze medallists, India.
You can see all of the hockey results on the Olympics website.
That’s not all, though!
We also had Nathan Hilton - Pathway Lead at British Swimming and postgraduate student here at NTU. Nathan went to Paris to help coach the marathon swimming team, one of many who swam in the Seine River. We caught up with Nathan earlier this year to learn more about his role.
NTU's Press and Communications Videographer, Helen Darby-Dowman, once again commentated for the BBC on the Olympics. Helen, who is based in the Recruitment, Marketing and Communications (RMC) team, was commentating for Kimberly Wood’s run in the K-1 slalom event, in which Kimberly achieved a bronze medal, the same as Helen in Athens 20 years prior.
