Clifton Campus
Transport and parking information for NTU students travelling to our Clifton campus.
By bus
NCT runs the award-winning Uni 4 Bus Service which runs up to every ten minutes and is available for students, staff and members of the general public throughout term time, Monday to Friday. This service takes you to and from NTU's City Campus into the heart of the Clifton Campus in about 30 minutes. A night bus runs until 4 am to provide safe student travel.
Out of term time, you can catch the Number 1 bus which leaves from Beastmarket hill in the City Centre and stops just outside Clifton Campus main entrance.
Download the NCTX app to plan your journey and purchase discounted student passes. If you travel three or more days on the bus, save money by purchasing the NTU academic year ticket which gives you unlimited bus travel until 31 July 2026.
You can find timetables and more information on the Nottingham City Transport website.
By tram
The Clifton Campus is also easily accessible by tram, the nearest stop to the Clifton Campus is Rivergreen on the Clifton South line. The Campus is a 10-minute walk from the Rivergreen stop. Find more information on the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) website.
You can access discounted one off student tickets here. If you travel three or more days on the tram, save money by purchasing a Student Academic Year Tram Ticket for £300. Find out more information and purchase a year tram ticket here.
You must buy your tickets before you travel, regular checks do take place. Anyone caught without a valid ticket or smartcard will be liable for a £70 fine.
You can use the new NETGO app to make purchasing tram tickets quicker, easier and cheaper.
With a tram ticket, you can access the ‘Destination Discount’ at various restaurants and stores in the City Centre.
By car
Clifton is a village near the city of Nottingham. For complete road directions from anywhere in the UK, see our directions to NTU page. The Clifton Campus postcode is NG11 8NS.
If you intend to travel to the Clifton Campus by car, and are not entitled to purchase a parking permit, we recommended that you use the city’s Park & Ride services. You can park at the NET Tram Park & Ride - Clifton South site and catch the tram, getting off at the Rivergreen tram stop. Our Clifton Campus is a ten-minute walk from Rivergreen. Remember to buy your ticket before you board the tram.
Visit the Nottingham Express Transit (NET) site for more information on the city’s Park & Ride services. You can use the discounted Student Mango Card on most trentbarton buses, as well as the tram.
Parking
Please note that parking on Clifton Campus is extremely limited and restrictions are in place. Students living outside NG14 can apply for a permit, together with those with extenuating circumstances. There are a limited number of permits which are sold on a first come first served basis from the NTU Online Shop from the first week in September.
At the following times, parking is for students with a valid parking permit only:
- between 7 am and 4 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
- between 7 am and 12 pm on Wednesday.
Permit holders can gain entry via the Main Entrance using their student card. Students must park in the student car park only.
Our parking permit scheme ensures the students with the greatest need are able to park on campus. These include:
- students who travel in from further than NG14
- students with extenuating circumstances.
Help us take care of the air - if you are stopping your car on campus for more than a minute, please turn off your engine.
Blue badge holders
There are accessible parking spaces available to blue badge holders on the Clifton Campus. All of our accessible parking spaces can be found on our Clifton Campus map.
Please contact the car parking team to request accessible parking access for all campuses to be added to your student card.
Electric vehicle (EV) charging
There are 10 EV charging bays at Clifton Campus where you can charge your electric vehicle. One of these is a dedicated accessible parking space for a blue-badge holder. All spaces are located in the Main Gate car park.
How to use
- You need to first download the Mer Connect UK app from Google Play or the App Store and either register with Mer or charge your vehicle as a guest user. Follow the steps on the app and the charging station to begin.
- We recommend familiarising yourself with the instructions on Mer's website. For any issues, please call Mer directly on 02038842768 or email support.uk@mer.eco
Costs
The EV chargers cost 47p per kW including VAT to use (subject to change).
By car share
NTU encourages students with a Clifton campus parking permit to consider car sharing to reduce travel costs and improve environmental impact. If you’d like to share your journey, you can sign up for Liftshare, a free and easy-to-use platform that helps you connect with others traveling the same way.
Once registered, you can search for matches among NTU students or across the nationwide Liftshare network.
By bike
The NTU Cycle Hub bike hire scheme is a great way for students to get around the University Campus. We have over 200 bikes available to hire, secure compounds for cycle parking at each campus, and discounted maintenance and advice is available from our Cycle Hub mechanic.
Visit Cycling at NTU for more. You'll find:
- Bike hire information
- Cycling facility campus maps (showers and lockers)
- Information on our upcoming Dr Bike sessions and other bike events
By foot
Walking or running is one of the best ways to stay healthy whilst travelling to campus. NTU has created a traffic free heart of campus at the three main campuses and works with the local authorities to continually improve public facilities. Information on local walks from campus, mostly in green spaces, can be found on the sustainability web pages, which can improve the health and wellbeing of students.
