Cycling at NTU

Cycling is important to us at NTU as it enhances wellbeing and helps to reduce our impact on the environment. We have various services to make cycling more accessible to and around the University:

Cycle Hub
  • 200+ bikes available for hire at £49 a year to staff and students.
  • NTU Cycle Hub which offers discounted bike maintenance
  • 300+ spaces in secure compounds for cycle storage.
  • Changing rooms and locker facilities.
  • Dr Bike sessions on each campus & bike training
  • Cycle to work scheme to help staff buy new bikes.

The Cycle Hub is part of a thriving cycling movement in Nottingham. Together with Nottingham City Council, Cycling UK and Sustrans, we're aiming to ensure that NTU and Nottingham as a whole become more cycle friendly, as part of our sustainable transport policy.

Bike hire at NTU

We offer bikes to hire for NTU students and staff at £49 for the academic year, less than £1 a week!

From January bikes can be hired for £29 for the remainder of the academic year.

They are high quality hybrid bikes which are ideal for cycling around town. In addition to the bike, we loan you a free D-lock, free bike lights and provide a free winter maintenance session alongside maintenance advice throughout the year.

A £60 deposit is required for all hirers, which will be refunded when the bike is returned on time and in a satisfactory condition.  See full terms and conditions here.

You can order a hire bike on this form, and collect the bike from the Cycle Hub workshop.

Please note you must pay via the order form before collecting your bike from the workshop

The Cycle Hub Workshop is open to all staff and students, who are welcome to make the most of our qualified mechanic.

The Workshop is staffed at the following times for free advice and affordable maintenance support:

For all enquiries and maintenance bookings or more information, contact cycle@ntu.ac.uk

We have the following cycle storage, lockers and showers available at NTU:

Students and staff using any of the cycle stores located on NTU property should make themselves aware of the usage policies below. We want people to be able to cycle freely across the whole NTU estate, while taking into consideration the safety of other people that may be using shared spaces.

Colleague services

NTU is a proud participant of the Cycle to Work scheme – a national scheme that allows all NTU staff to purchase bikes and accessories up to the value of £3,500 with significant tax incentives.

We have the following models available

  • Raleigh Array – The best-looking e-bike with built-in software providing a smooth pull away.
  • Raleigh Felix – The Felix is a step up from the Array as it features a Bosch Active Line Plus motor and more gears.
  • Raleigh Trace – A great looking lightweight electric bike with a 250wh battery useful for city biking
  • Raleigh Stowaway-folding – Perfect for commuters that get on public transport too. This e-bike can fold up small enough to be carried. Features a 250-w rear hub motor.

The e-bikes are great for all levels of experience and with a 60-90 mile range it's ready to go again, and again, and again. Whether you want to rediscover the joy of cycling or just want a little extra push on the Monday morning rush to work, an e-bike is here to help.
