Information outlining the financial support available from the Student Loans Company in the 2023/24 academic year.

Further education students from England in 2023/24

If you're a further education student, you may be able to get help with course, living and childcare costs. You can find out more out about support funds for FE students on our extra money for those who need it page.

Full-time home undergraduates from England in 2023/24

The following support is available.

  • A Tuition Fee Loan: Up to £9,250 per year to pay for your tuition fees.
  • A Maintenance Loan: Up to £9,978. This depends on your household income and whether you live in your parental home during term time. Students in receipt of certain benefits can get up to £11,374 per year.
  • Student Finance grants are available if you have a dependant.
  • University bursaries or scholarships for eligible students.

If you're from outside England, your funding package will be different. Find out about your entitlement and eligibility from your national Student Finance Service.

If you are studying a health-related course, you may also be entitled to NHS funding via the Learning Support Fund. Our NHS funding page provides more information.

Part-time home undergraduates from England in 2023/24

The following support is available.

  • A Tuition Fee Loan: Up to £6,935 per year to pay for your tuition fees.
  • A Maintenance Loan, dependent on your circumstances. The amount you can apply for depends on:
    • the length and intensity of your course
    • your household income
    • whether you're living in your parental home during term-time.

Undergraduates from the EU in 2023/24

For EU students with pre-settled status, the following support is available:

  • A Tuition Fee Loan: Up to £9,250 per year to pay for your tuition fees.

Postgraduates from England studying a Masters course in 2023/24

The following support is available.

  • A Postgraduate Masters Loan: £12,167 paid to you directly.

This loan is paid over the duration of your studies. For example, if you study over two years, you'll be paid £6,083 in each academic year.

Doctoral students from England and Wales studying a Doctoral course in 2023/24

The following support is available.

  • A Postgraduate Doctoral Loan: £28,673 paid to you directly.

This loan is paid over the duration of your studies. For example, if you study over five years, you'll be paid approximately £5,734 in each academic year.

Doctoral students from the EU studying a Doctoral course in 2023/24

The following support is available to EU students with settled or pre-settled status.

  • A Postgraduate Doctoral Loan: £28,673 paid to you directly.

This loan is paid over the duration of your studies. For example, if you study over four years, you'll be paid approximately £7,168 in each academic year.
