Getting ready for your exams
What you need to know about preparing for your exams, including key dates, timetables and exam arrangements.

Please review the NTU Examination Code of Conduct ahead of any exams for full guidance.
Key dates and timetabling
The university's main exam periods for the academic year can be found on the dates, deadlines and support page
Exams are usually timetabled during the day, Monday to Sunday. Morning exams start at 09.15 am and afternoon exams start at 2.15 pm.
When will my timetable be available?
For the main exam periods, your timetable will be released on specific dates in advance. These dates can be found on the Personal Exam Timetable tab on NOW, but will roughly follow the schedule below:
- Half-year examinations: First week in December
- Main examination period: Third week in March
- Resit examinations: Third week in July
Your School may schedule exams or class tests outside of these times, which can appear on your weekly timetable instead. Please contact your School if you have any questions about these types of exams or think they might be missing from your timetable.
Timetable changes
The initial timetable release will not include venue or Personalised Exam Plan (PEP) arrangement information. This will be added later, usually around 3 – 6 weeks before the exam period.
Please be aware that PEP arrangement details are only visible for exams taking place during the main exam periods and will not be visible for other types of exams, but will still be put in place as detailed on your Access Statement.
Timetables are subject to change, so it is important to check your timetable regularly, especially close to your exam dates. Please do not rely on screenshots of your timetable, as you may miss important changes to rooms or times.
Religious festival clashes
The University respects the rights and religious views of its students. We will make every attempt to schedule your exam, avoiding any holy days; however, this may not always be possible. Please email us with any individual circumstances, and we will make every effort to reschedule your exam for an appropriate time.
Do you need exam arrangements?
Short-term adjustments
If you require short-term, temporary adjustments due to:
- Injury
- Pregnancy
- Any temporary health condition.
Please contact your School/tutor, who will notify the Exams team of your condition. They will then organise your adjustments with student services and put these in place.
Long-term adjustments
If you require longer-term adjustments due to:
- Physical Disability
- Neurodivergence
- Any ongoing medical condition.
Please contact Student Support Services or complete this Disability & Inclusion Services Self-Referral Form to discuss your support needs. They will assess your requirements and produce an Access Statement which includes recommended adjustments for your teaching and exams.
You should contact Student Services as soon as possible when you begin your course to ensure enough time to assess your requirements and submit the correct paperwork. For the university’s main exam periods, please ensure that you have met with a member of the assessment team and received an Access Statement in line with the deadline dates for submission of arrangements.
