The Black Leadership Programme, empowering a new generation of leaders

Published: 18/01/2021

Designed to empower black second year undergraduate students to gain confidence and become resilient leaders. Eligible students have until 24 January to apply.

In December 2020 Nottingham Trent University (NTU) announced its Race Equality Action Plan, designed to empower and enable Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic students to grow, shape and influence our NTU community.

The Black Leadership Programme is an integral part of this plan. As a collaboration between NTU and Nottingham Trent Students’ Union, the programme is designed to empower black second year undergraduate students to gain confidence and become resilient leaders through a series of hands-on events and community-building activities throughout Term Two and Term Three.

As well as the skills to become an effective leader, successful applicants will get access to valuable events and opportunities including:

  • The opportunity to attend a launch and welcome event
  • A full-day workshop designed to develop a sense of community, belonging, empowerment and self-worth. In addition, applicants will complete a further session to reflect on accomplishments and developments
  • The opportunity to network with peers, leaders and employers as well as the provision of a skilled mentor
  • An independent employability learning module
  • The chance to take part in an exchange trip* in collaboration with NTU Global.

During the programme, applicants will also be invited to apply for internship opportunities for Summer 2021. This is a fantastic opportunity to help students stand out to employers post-graduation.

Students will also receive a letter of achievement signed by the Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University acknowledging their participation in the programme.

Sound like something you’d like to get involved with? Find out more about the programme and apply. Applications close at 23.59 on Sunday 24 January 2021.
