Hop on board WRAP’s Short Story Competition

Published: 25/02/2021

Take your inspiration from a bus journey and submit your 250-word story online before the deadline on Friday 26 March 2021.

Driven by Ashley Hickson-Lovence's book The 392, WRAP, our Writing, Reading and Pleasure programme, is inviting you to write a 250-word short story inspired by a bus journey.

Who is sitting on the bus? Where is it going? What can you see from the window? Take us on a short journey, like the characters in Ashley’s novel.

The competition is open to all current NTU students and staff, and launches on Thursday 25 February at Ashley’s Writing Masterclass. At the event, he’ll be sharing his writing and reading inspirations, as well as a task to kickstart your ideas for the competition! Don’t worry if you can’t attend the session, you can still enter the competition and share your creative ideas with us.

Entries will be judged by a panel from NTU's Centre for Travel Writing Studies, along with a WRAP Student Ambassador. Judges will look for originality – whether the story features an interesting approach, character or situation and is written in an interesting way. Eight lucky winners (four students and four staff) will be selected, each receiving a £25 book token and the opportunity to be published in WRAP’s forthcoming online short story anthology.

To enter, simply complete our online form and upload your short story. Entries open at 9 am on Thursday 25 February 2021 and close at 9 pm on Friday 26 March 2021.  Winners will be announced in the week commencing Monday 26 April 2021. You can find full information and terms and conditions on the WRAP webpages.

Good luck and happy writing!
