So, if you want to be inspired, experience new cultures, learn a language and create memories that will stay with you for a lifetime, go ahead and apply. You’ll be so glad you did.

Take the Maasai Mara for example. It’s a huge natural game reserve in Kenya surrounded by hills, and forests and has a wildlife conservation area of 1,510 square kilometres. It’s owned and managed by the Maasai people who for hundreds of years have ensured that they and the wildlife have co-existed. Imagine having the opportunity to photograph a herd of elephants at daybreak - it’s a once in a lifetime experience.

Or the UmPhafa Private Nature Reserve in South Africa dedicated to wildlife research and conservation. It’s home to giraffe, impala, wildebeest, waterbuck and leopards and the spotted hyena have recently returned to the area.

Why not hike the Mont Rebei Canyon, which is located between Catalonia and Aragon. It can only be crossed by a narrow track, around 20 metres wide and the canyon walls reach vertical heights of up to 500 metres. Imagine the mesmerising beauty, the air quality, the atmosphere, the sense of freedom. It sounds wonderful doesn’t it - but not one for the faint-hearted.

The deadline for applications to study abroad is Sunday 22 January 2023, and Wednesday 14 December 2022 for NBS students only.

Opportunities to study abroad are open to most full-time undergraduate students. This depends on what course you're doing. You may be able to go for one semester, or for a full year that combines work and study abroad.

You can usually study or work abroad during:

  • the second year of a three-year course, or
  • the third year of a four-year sandwich course.
