Study abroad – January deadline is looming
Published: 16/01/2023
Interested in studying, working or volunteering abroad during your course? NTU offers students a range of international opportunities on and off campus.

On a personal level, this trip has been life changing. I feel like I have learnt so much about myself and the values I want to live my life by, and it made me reflect upon what is most important to me. It has made me think deeply about how I want to serve others through my work, and it has also sparked a desire to travel more and see more of this wonderful world.
This has been the trip of a lifetime with so many opportunities for professional, academic, and personal growth. I got to explore a stunning country with an incredible culture and work on projects where I felt I was making a difference. Plus, I got to meet so many incredible people along the way.

Could this be you next year?
These are not just inspirational quotes, these are personal recommendations from students who have taken a once in a lifetime opportunity to study, volunteer or work abroad.
If you are interested in studying or working in a country you’ve never been before, making new friends, sharing experiences, and exploring new cultures, there are so many options to allow you to do this, whether it be volunteering, summer schools, and many more.

Bethan Burroughes visited Taiwan
Bethan: I completed the Excellent Mandarin Programme at I-Shou University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan which consisted of 15 hours of Chinese Mandarin classes a week from June till the end of August”.
My time studying abroad helped me to gain a lot of confidence, independence, and aspiration. The experience has helped me to see other potential career options for my education degree and gain skills that I can carry with me into the working world.

Julia Jagiello visited the Animation Festival in France
Julia: The Animation industry is very international. There are studios in many countries, with different approaches, styles, and experiences. To be a part of animation means getting to know all the different types of it and I couldn’t imagine better than learning about it in other countries.
The experience included getting to know the industry, talking to professionals, and finding out about different job-related specifications. I took part in many, in my opinion, useful talks and themed panels where I was able to learn more about animation. The trip was incredibly inspiring and made me think more about what type of animation I want to specialise in.
I think going outside of what you know is always a great experience. The more you see and get to know, the more you understand the world and the people. As well, it helps you to be a better creator.

Christy Fraser studied abroad at Northern Arizona University
Christy: The highlights of my trip have to be the people I met and the new connections and friendships that were formed.
I would definitely recommend doing a study abroad semester – it opened my eyes up to a new side of life and how people work and travel, meeting new people, forming friendships with people I wouldn’t have had the chance to before, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone to really thrive and understand what I want to do in the future.
Just go for it. There is so much to learn out there. The world is full of new ideas, people, and cuisines! You will come back refreshed, and more culturally aware and it will motivate you to work hard and go exploring further.
