How to register to vote for the general election on 4 July 2024
Published: 24/05/2024
Where will you be on 4 July 2024? As that’s the date now announced for the next general election you may need to consider where you will be voting.
As a student, you may be able to register to vote at both your home address and term-time address, but you can only vote in one location. If you can’t make it to a polling station on the day of the election you can apply for a postal vote or proxy vote (where someone you trust will vote on your behalf).
Voting is your chance to have your say and help shape how the government and your local area are governed. The voting process consists of checking you’re eligible, registering to be able to vote before the deadline, and then voting.
What to do next
To check your eligibility to vote and to see if you are already on the electoral register, contact your local Electoral Registration Offices. You can find these details on the gov.uk website.

You can apply for voter ID if you don't already have a photo ID that will allow you to vote.
