Celebrate South Asian Heritage Month with NTU
Published: 16/07/2024
From 18 July until 17 August the UK celebrates South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM). It was set up in 2019 to recognise and celebrate the contributions South Asian communities have made to the UK and to help us understand the diverse heritage that continues to link the UK and South Asia.

Why July and August?
SAHM takes place across two Western calendar months to respect the traditions of the South Asian solar calendar. July and August contain several significant dates including the Indian Independence Act 1947 gaining royal assent, Independence days for the Maldives, Bhutan, Pakistan and India, and Partition Commemoration Day.
NTU's diverse community
A significant part of the UK's Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities have South Asian roots and this is reflected in our vibrant NTU community. As we continue to work towards NTU’s Race Equality Charter Action Plan, SAHM is the perfect opportunity to enhance our cultural awareness.
