Have you had the meningitis vaccine?
Published: 30/01/2025
It’s important to be up to date with all your vaccinations, including the ACWY meningitis vaccine.

You can get the ACWY meningitis vaccination for free if you’re aged under 25 and in your first year of study. Students in other years should contact their GP for further information.
Meningitis is a life-threatening infectious disease and students can be vulnerable to it due to close living arrangements. New students may be at a higher risk of meningitis infection due to potentially mixing closely with lots of new people.
The early symptoms of meningitis can disguise themselves as other things. It can look like common flu, covid, or even a hangover – it’s easy to mistake meningitis for something else. Make sure you know the signs and symptoms of meningitis and if in doubt please get medical help immediately.
Contact your health centre to book your free ACWY vaccination.
Registering with a GP
If you haven't already, it's important to register with your local medical practice. Find out how to register at a local GP practice, book an appointment with your GP and order repeat prescriptions online.
