A term of impact – NTU Sustainability highlights

Published: 16/04/2025

It’s been another fantastic term for NTU Sustainability, with achievements that continue to put NTU on the map – locally, nationally, and globally. We’re proud to remain second in the world and first in the UK in the 2024 UI Green Metric World University Rankings – and the reasons why are easy to see.

Here are just some of the amazing things we’ve accomplished or been involved in this term:

  • Four peregrine falcon eggs are now being closely monitored on our live camera.
  • Professor Dawn Scott, Executive Dean of the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences, worked with Royal Mail on a new stamp collection featuring the UK wildlife you might find in your garden or local parks.
  • The Professional Student Wardrobe turned one, having rehomed over 1,000 items – saving more than 3,000 kg from landfill.
  • Green Week in March saw over 200 attendees at events like seed plantings, wildlife webinars, and more.
  • Our community gathered at Confetti X for a powerful screening and panel discussion on climate action with Mammoth Climate Action Cinema.
  • MEng Civil Engineering students reimagined a 'tram stop of the future' during a visit to the NET depot.
  • Dr Bike provided free bicycle health checks at our City, Clifton and Brackenhurst campuses.
  • Psychology students developed creative ideas for sustainable travel, waste reduction and student engagement.
  • NTU welcomed 300 schoolchildren to explore careers at our Science and Tech Careers Day.
  • Nottingham Business School hosted workshops to support local businesses in adopting greener practices.
  • Environmental science students came together to discuss and shape proposals in support of NTU’s Nature Positive pledge.
  • We proudly hosted the 25th University Horticultural Officers' Conference in April.
