Our amazing NTU Conservation Society have created wildflowers meadows across the Brackenhurst Campus
Published: 13/05/2022
Last week, the Conservation Society (ConSoc) sowed wildflowers outside accommodation blocks at Brackenhurst as part of their efforts to create habitats and support biodiversity on the campus.

The ground was first prepped by ConSoc members, who raked loose plant matter away and sowed seeds onto the bare ground.
Wildflower meadows are a brilliant way to increase wildlife diversity, growing best on nutrient poor ground. They can host an enormous amount of plant species within a relatively small area. With these plants come their associative organisms such as bees, hoverflies, moths and butterflies. These spaces result in a unique environment, not just for social enjoyment, but also practical teaching spaces to enhance your earning experience as well as exciting research opportunities for both staff and students.
It is hoped too that, with support from teams across the University, ConSoc may be able to measure the carbon-storing contributions of wildflower and subsequent tree planting to help NTU achieve its Net Zero Carbon 2040 Target.
We are very proud of our NTU students and wish them all the luck in helping to make a positive impact on wildlife and the environment.
