From bands to book clubs, exhibitions to excursions, take a look at what you can expect from NTU’s extra-curricular arts programme in the coming weeks.

Whether you’re in search of a new hobby to enjoy with friends, or you’re an experienced artist looking for fresh inspiration, NTU Arts has a whole host of free and low cost events planned during Welcome, and beyond.

Discover Bonington Gallery’s latest exhibition

Bonington Gallery is our free public exhibition space and events programme in the heart of City Campus.

After The End of History: British Working Class Photography 1989 – 2024 is a Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition which opens on Friday 27 September. Featuring over 120 works by contemporary working class artists and photographers, the exhibition explores the nuances of working-class life in all its diversity, and is free and open to all.

You can visit in your own time or get a free guided tour led by Gallery Director Tom Godfrey.

While you’re there, be sure to check out the latest vitrine exhibition, exploring the life and works of NTU alumnus and BLK Group artist Donald Rodney.

Pursue your passion for words

Love to read? Join us on a tour of Nottingham’s Book Shops during Welcome or get personalised recommendations for your reading list from the Book Doctors.

We also have a weekly Book Club where you can take a deep dive into a whole host of gripping titles chosen by Notts TV Book Club presenter, Becky Cullen.

If you’re curious about creative writing as well as reading, you can meet fellow writers at our Writing, Reading and Pleasure Get Togethers, or perform your work at one of our Creative Cafés.

Unleash your inner artist

From stop motion to drawing, painting and pottery, our free craft workshops are a great way to learn new skills and connect with fellow creatives. They’re free to attend and materials are provided.

You can also explore the creative offer across the city with trips to arts organisations including Nottingham Castle, Nottingham Playhouse and more!

Play and experience live music

Whether you sing or play an instrument – or would like to – we’re hosting taster sessions for all our musical ensembles during Welcome, as well as an introduction to our three-week digital DJing Course.

If you prefer to appreciate music from the audience, check out our line-up of concerts. Don’t miss Nottingham-based ensemble MUHA who’ll be taking to the University Hall stage in October – there are limited number of free tickets for students!
