Help shape NTU's future: Nominate our next Chancellor

The University's current Chancellor, Sir John Peace, was appointed in November 2017 and will step down at the end of his tenure in 2027 after a decade of distinguished service to NTU.

During his tenure as Chancellor, he has played a significant ambassadorial role for the University, supporting its profile, celebrating student success and representing NTU at key events and Graduation ceremonies. He was also Chair of the Board of Governors between 1999 and 2009.

The search for Nottingham Trent University's next Chancellor is now underway, and NTU students, colleagues and governors are invited to put forward nominations for this important role.

A dedicated Chancellor Search Committee, established as a sub-committee of the Board of Governors, has been formed to oversee the appointment process and identify an individual who will help champion NTU's ambitions for the years ahead.

As the University looks ahead to its next chapter, the Search Committee is keen to hear from members of the NTU community about individuals who could bring inspiration, influence and advocacy to the role.

Who are we looking for?

The Board of Governors has agreed that candidates should, as far as possible, demonstrate the following qualities:

  • A personal commitment to NTU's strategy, mission, ethos and values.
  • The ability to exert influence in areas relevant to the University's strategic priorities (research and education).
  • A significant national and, ideally, international profile.
  • A strong commitment to championing students' interests.
  • Commitment to the University's diversity and inclusion agenda.
  • The ability to support NTU's fundraising ambitions.
  • The capacity to help create opportunities for graduate employment.
  • A passion for the ethos and values of higher education.
  • The qualities of an established and inspirational figure, demonstrating both charm and gravitas.

While nominees may not meet every criterion, nominations should reflect as many of these characteristics as possible.

How to submit a nomination

If you know someone who embodies this profile, we'd like to hear from you.

Please send:

  • The nominee's name.
  • A supporting statement of no more than 250 words explaining why you believe they would be an outstanding Chancellor.
  • Confirmation of whether you are a student, member of staff or governor.
  • Your College, School or Directorate.

Nominations should be emailed by 5 pm on Tuesday 6 October 2026.

Please note that the nominations process is open only to NTU students, staff and governors. In line with the appointment process, nominations will be treated in the strictest confidence.

The announcement of the new Chancellor will be in March 2027, with the formal investiture expected to take place during the July 2027 Graduation ceremonies.

The appointment of a Chancellor is an important moment in the University's history. We encourage everyone across our community to consider who could help champion NTU's mission, support our students and act as an inspiring ambassador for the University both nationally and internationally.
