Services and support over the winter break
Support and services available to NTU students over the winter break.
You may be staying in Nottingham, or travelling to be with family and friends over the winter break. Either way, we'll be keeping many of our services and facilities open for you to use.
This information is correct up to Friday 19 December. We'll update any further information on Monday 5 January.
Winter closure dates
Term finishes for most courses on Friday 12 December 2025.
Many services and facilities will be open until Friday 19 December 2025. After this, some emergency cover will be available.
NTU will fully open services again from Monday 12 January 2026.
UK public winter holidays
The following are UK public holidays:
- Christmas Day - 25 December 2025
- Boxing Day - 26 December 2025
- New Year's Day - 1 January 2026
Travelling outside the UK
If you're an international student, download an enrolment letter from My Student Record as it may be required when you arrive back in the UK. Look after your passport, and make sure you have access to your eVisa whilst you're away.
If you're staying local this winter break
You're supported all year round while you're at NTU. If you're on your own this winter, we have resources and activities to support you over the festive period.
Student Support Services
Student Support Services remain open and operating as normal until Friday 19 December 2025. All services are closed from Saturday 20 December 2025 to Sunday 4 January 2026, after which normal hours will resume from Monday 5 January 2026.
Urgent support
For urgent campus or security enquiries, support is available 24/7 over the winter break. Call NTU on +44 (0)115 848 2222 to speak to someone for assistance, or if there is an immediate risk to life call 999 and inform NTU Security or go to the nearest Accident and Emergency department.
If you, or someone you know is not at immediate risk but has feelings around suicide, there is help available from the external organisations listed below. You can also complete a wellbeing referral form and this will be picked when the university re-opens on Monday 5 January 2026.

- NHS Accident and Emergency departments have dedicated Mental Health Liaison staff that can support a Mental Health Crisis.
For support with sexual violence and domestic abuse:
- To report sexual assault and get immediate support in Nottingham, contact the Topaz Centre, a specialist 24/7 service for people over 18 Tel: 0800 085 9993 (24/7)
- Nottingham Sexual Violence Support Services (Notts SVSS) offer a range of specialist sexual violence support. Helpline 0115 941 0440 open from 10 am - 1 pm and 4.30 - 7.30 pm
- If you are experiencing violence, abuse or coercive control, you can contact Juno Women’s Aid using their 24 hour helpline - call 0808 800 0340. Or Refuge national domestic abuse – 24 hour free helpline, call 0808 2000 247.

Card services
If you have an enquiry about your student card over the winter break you can contact NTU Library during their opening hours.
NTU Library
City, Clifton and Brackenhurst libraries will be open until Saturday 20 December 2025 and will re-open on Monday 5 January 2026.
24/7 study zones available at Clifton and Brackenhurst campuses
If you need a warm, safe space, there are 24/7 study zones available through swipe access with your student card throughout the winter break (including public holidays). These zones are closely monitored by NTU Security through CCTV and patrols.
Meet up with other students to study, relax, and play board games in your 24/7 Study Zones across campuses. There are study spaces with PC’s, printing facilities, wireless phone chargers, space to charge laptops, and laptops available for loan.
We’ve created a new soft-seating, wellbeing area with games and wellbeing tips in the 24/7 Study Zone at Brackenhurst Campus, (Room 011), so you can take a break from your studies while using the zone.
Clifton’s refurbished 24/7 Study Zone can be accessed to the right of the main entrance of the library. Drinks and snacks are available from vending machines.

Library appointments
One-to-one appointments with the Learning and Teaching Team will run until the end of the day on Friday 19 December 2025 and restart on Monday 5 January 2026. Please book your appointment.

Library Lunchtime Learning Workshops will run until Friday 19 December 2025 and start again on Monday 12 January 2026. Please book your next workshop.
ASK Hub
During the winter break, the ASK Hub is available for all of your academic skills needs.
Further Academic Skills support

Go to the ASK Hub on NOWSafe Place
The Safe Places are calm and quiet areas available for you to use over the winter break.
Accessible from the rear entrance of Boots library, in the Pavilion, and in Pippin Cottage, the spaces will be open from 9 pm-9 am every day, and will be free to use for a variety of reasons. These include making a call, if you are being followed, calming down if you’re feeling anxious and leaving a situation if you feel uncomfortable.

Employability support
The City and Clifton Employability spaces will be open as usual until Friday 12 December 2025.
City Employability will remain open until Friday 19 December and you can still book appointments with members of the team.
All Employability services will resume as normal on Monday 5 January 2026.

Catering facilities on campus
Catering facilities are open as normal until Friday 19 December 2025 and will re-open on Monday 5 January 2026 (apart from Brackenhurst Campus which will re-open on Monday 12 January 2026).

Travel and transport
NCT number 4 bus will not run from Saturday 13 December 2025 - Sunday 11 January 2026. Students can use the number 1 bus to travel to Clifton at this time. Normal service will return on Monday 12 January 2026 at the start of Term Two.
The NTU Cycle Hub will be closed from Friday 12 December 2025, it will re-open on Tuesday 6 January 2026. Students can still email cycle@ntu.ac.uk with any bike hire or maintenance queries and receive a response in the New Year.
