Services and support over the winter break

Support and services available to NTU students over the winter break.

You may be staying in Nottingham, or travelling to be with family and friends over the winter break. Either way, we'll be keeping many of our services and facilities open for you to use.

This information is correct up to Friday 20 December. We'll update any further information on Monday 6 January.

Winter closure dates

Term finishes for most courses on Friday 13 December 2024.

Many services and facilities will be open until Friday 20 December 2024. After this, some emergency cover will be available.

NTU will fully open services again from Monday 6 January 2025.

UK public winter holidays

The following are UK public holidays:

  • Christmas Day - 25 December 2024
  • Boxing Day - 26 December 2024
  • New Year's Day - 1 January 2025

Travelling outside the UK

If you're thinking of travelling outside the UK, check if you're required to get a visa for that country. Don’t delay making your visa application.

If you're planning to travel to Europe, you may need a Schengen visa – please see our support for international students web pages for information. For other destinations, please check the country’s embassy website.

If you're an international student, carry your enrolment letter as it may be required when you arrive back to the UK. Look after your passport and BRP whilst you're away – if you lose them, they'll be costly, stressful and time consuming to replace.

If you're staying local this winter break

You're supported all year round while you're at NTU. If you're on your own this winter, we have resources and activities to support you over the festive period.

24/7 study zones available at City, Clifton and Brackenhurst campuses

If you need a warm, safe space, there are 24/7 study zones available through swipe access with your student card from 22 December 2024 to 5 January (including public holidays). These zones are closely monitored by NTU Security through CCTV and patrols.

Meet up with other students to study, relax, and play board games in your 24/7 Study Zones across campuses. There are study spaces with PC’s, printing facilities, wireless phone chargers, space to charge laptops, and laptops available for loan.

We’ve created a new soft-seating, wellbeing area with games and wellbeing tips in the 24/7 Study Zone at Brackenhurst Campus, (Room 011), so you can take a break from your studies while using the zone.

Clifton’s refurbished 24/7 Study Zone can be accessed to the right of the main entrance of the library. Drinks and snacks are available from vending machines.

At our City Campus, head over to Library@Dryden where you can also help yourself to a free hot chocolate in the Dryden Kitchen!

If you're in Nottingham and you're experiencing food poverty or loneliness, visit SaSh. It's a Muslim-and-Jewish-led community kitchen based in Hyson Green. SaSh offers hot food every Wednesday from 5 pm to 6.30 pm.

We have multi-faith prayer-facilities on our City and Clifton campuses. If you'd like to use them, contact NTU Security on +44 (0)115 848 2222 to request access.
