Study exchange

Explore and apply for study exchanges at partner universities around the world.

When I can go

Opportunities to study and work abroad are open to most full-time undergraduate students. This depends on what course you're doing. You may be able to go for one semester, or for a full year that combines work and study abroad. Students usually study or work abroad during:

  • the second year of a three-year course, or
  • the third year of a four-year sandwich course.

Some postgraduate students will also have the opportunity to study and work abroad. This will again depend on your course.

There are also short-term opportunities to go abroad every year. Many of these take place in the summer. We'll announce these as applications open across the year, so please keep an eye on our webpages.

Turing Scheme

The new Turing Scheme began in September 2021. It allows students to do a period or study or work abroad. This period is four weeks or more, and can be anywhere in the world, including Europe. Find out more about the Turing Scheme and the funding available to you as a NTU student.

We'll be holding information sessions and virtual drop-ins about the Turing Scheme. These will take place throughout 2021/22. Visit the Study Abroad channel in the Virtual Global Lounge for announcements.

The Erasmus+ programme promotes student mobility to Europe for study and work. The programme includes over 250 partner institutions in 26 European countries. View the Erasmus charter.

In 2020, the government confirmed the UK will not be part of the 2021 to 2027 Erasmus+ programme. Despite this, NTU will maintain our European partnerships. We'll continue to offer exchange opportunities for our students in Europe.
