NTU welcomes your view on a new Art & Design building proposal on our City Campus
Published: 01/03/2021
NTU is submitting a planning application for the development later this month. Before we submit, we are inviting all colleagues, students and members of the public to view and comment on our plans to create a new Art & Design building at 42 Shakespeare Street.

The striking new building will be situated on the corner of Shakespeare Street and North Sherwood Street. Facilities will include studios, specialist teaching rooms and study spaces, as well as dedicated, state-of-the-art resources for visual communication, moving image and digital screen disciplines.
Designed by award-winning architects Hawkins Brown, the landmark development will serve as a welcoming gateway to our City Campus. It will support our sustainability commitment by delivering exemplar zero carbon credentials and create opportunities through interdisciplinary spaces that encourage experimentation and support new thinking.
We’re really keen to hear what you think! As, due to the extraordinary year we’re having, we’re unable to hold a public consultation in person, we have created a website to showcase our ideas and gather your views.
You’ll have the opportunity to read through the details of our proposal, view artists’ impressions of the new building, examine floor plans and elevations, and send us any questions or comments you may have. The consultation period opens today and closes on Thursday 18 March 2021. The portal will still be accessible after this date and throughout the planning process for those wishing to view and comment on the proposal.
If our application for planning permission is successful, we hope to start building work in Summer 2021 and deliver a completed building by Autumn 2023. We’re really excited about this opportunity to invest in NTU’s future.
