A landmark building for the creative industries in Nottingham

Designed by award-winning architects Hawkins\Brown, and delivered by local architects CPMG, the new Design & Digital Arts Building will place Nottingham as a UK hub for film, television, animation, UX design, games design, graphic design and more.

Spaces to create

The new building will provide students with cutting-edge technology and equipment, with creative spaces for interdisciplinary collaboration, social learning and exhibition.

An innovative new centre for students

The technologies and workspaces in the new building will be accessible to Nottingham School of Art & Design students, especially those studying graphic design, illustration, motion graphics, UX design, filmmaking, television production, animation, games design and visual effects.

These facilities will support creative skills and help graduates prepare for success in professional, technical and commercial careers in the growing cultural and creative industries.

Facilities

  • Collaborative studio spaces – a series of dynamic, interdisciplinary spaces, bringing students together to extend their expertise and practice.
  • Virtual production studio – a 9m x 4m LED volume, fitted with the latest industry standard lighting and camera systems, camera tracking and high-end servers, providing students with highly sought after skills for virtual production in the film industry.
  • In-camera VFX studio – fitted with a large 90° green screen infinity curve, the latest industry standard lighting and camera systems and live-keying software, giving students access to the latest VFX and virtual production workflows and practices.
  • Black box studio – large performance capture studio, fitted with a 360° ladder truss for motion capture workflows. Utilising the latest technology including Xsens Suits, Rokoko Suits, Faceware Facial Capture technology and Move.AI capabilities.
  • Future technology suites – creative spaces to facilitate digital transformation from idea generation to implementation, and a place to host artists-in residence and industry partners. Suites include augmented reality, projection mapping and TouchDesigner capabilities, with a range of 3D printers, VR headsets, small scale projection mapping and mixed reality technology for student experimentation and discovery.
