Remembering Stephen Lawrence – 30 years on
Published: 18/04/2023
Stephen Lawrence Day is held every year on 22 April to commemorate the life of Stephen Lawrence, who was murdered in a racially motivated attack in 1993.

Join in with a host of activities happening this month at NTU to honour his legacy and learn what we can all do as individuals to stand up to discrimination.

Newton and Arkwright to light up orange
NTU’s Newton and Arkwright buildings will light up in orange from Friday 21 – Saturday 22 April to commemorate Stephen Lawrence Day.
To support this event and get the conversation started, we’re inviting you to take pictures or videos of our light up and post them on social media using the hashtag #SLDay23.
Anti-racism panel discussion
As this year’s commemoration marks 30 years since Stephen’s murder, we’re hosting a dedicated online panel conversation on Wednesday 26 April at 12:30 pm which focuses on supporting anti-racism.
This discussion will give us all an opportunity to reflect on Stephen’s death, explore the role of institutional bodies in his murder case, and learn more about hate crime in the present day.
