Hailed by the New York Times as "monumental", Jonathan joins us to talk about his most recent book King: A Life, which presents a new portrait of civil rights icon Dr Martin Luther King Jr.

He'll be joined by Birmingham-based human rights activist, author and social commentator Maxie Hayles MBE, who will share his reflections on civil rights and activism in the UK.

This event will be moderated by Clive Foster MBE, NTU Executive Dean EDI and Multi-Faith Manager.

About Jonathan Eig

Jonathan Eig is the best-selling author of six books, including his most recent King: A Life which was nominated for a National Book Award. Jonathan’s previous book, Ali: A Life, won a 2018 PEN America Literary Award and was a finalist for the Mark Lynton History Prize. His works have been translated into more than a dozen languages.

Jonathan's first book, Luckiest Man: The Life and Death of Lou Gehrig, reached No. 10 on The New York Times bestseller list and won the Casey Award. His books have been listed among the best of the year by The New York TimesThe Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal.

About Maxie Hayles

Maxie Hayles MBE is a human rights activist, author and social commentator. He is particularly known in the Midlands as a Black British civil rights leader. In Birmingham, for over 30 years or so, he was the 'go-to man' for defence against racial discriminations or justice after a racial attack. For most of his adult life Maxie has dedicated his life to fight for racial justice, for respect and dignity to the people he feels immensely proud to belong to. Maxie is the author of Taking it to the Max, an autobiography about his life.
