NTU named Sports University of the Year for 2026
Published: 14/08/2025
We’re delighted to share that NTU has been announced as the Sports University of the Year for 2026 in this year’s Daily Mail University Guide!
The award recognises our outstanding elite-level performance programmes, facilities and our focus on of mental and physical wellbeing at all levels through initiatives such as NTU Moves.
This achievement follows the exciting news that NTU secured a Top 10 spot in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league for the fourth consecutive year.
It is a huge honour for NTU to be awarded the Daily Mail Sports University of the Year and a brilliant recognition for the work of our colleagues and students. The award not only recognises our elite-level performance in the BUCS rankings but our work to engage a large and diverse number of students in sport and exercise as a way to improve student mental health and wellbeing. I congratulate everyone involved in NTU Sport for this outstanding achievement.

Looking forward to next year
With the 25/26 academic year just around the corner, the new multi-use sports facility (MUSF) is currently under construction at Clifton Campus. It is due to be completed in January 2026, giving more space and opportunity for people to get involved with sport at NTU.
Both new and returning students will also be able to sign up for more clubs than ever before, with taster and squad selection sessions opening in September. All sessions will be listed on the NTU Welcome website.
Want to get involved?
There are lots of ways students can get involved in sport at NTU.
We have over 60 sport clubs available to join at the start of each year, alongside our well-established internal sport leagues programme.
If you are wanting to enjoy sport on a more casual basis with zero commitment, Play for Fun is the perfect way to try out a range of sports and meet likeminded people.
Our Pink memberships give access to two gym facilities, opportunity to book court space for casual use, and a range of classes from high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to yoga.
