Important policies for NTU students

Our Student Charter is set out by the president of NTSU and NTU’s Vice-Chancellor. It outlines how the University is committed to delivering a high quality student experience that meets – and hopefully exceeds – those expectations.

The Student Code of Behaviour applies to all students enrolled with the University and outlines the expected standards of behaviour, along with the procedures to be followed, and possible consequences, where these standards are not met.

The University recognises, supports and promotes freedom of speech within the law as a fundamental principle of a democratic society and one that is central to higher education.

We have produced a Code of Practice on Freedom of Speech which you are encouraged to read. We have also published a statement on this topic, confirming the University’s support of freedom of speech, and all students have access to a NOW learning room providing further information on this topic.

There has been a small amendment to the Student Complaints Procedure to extend the timelines for complaint acknowledgements and resolutions.  Reference to the use of Artifical Intelligence in investigations has also been included.

There has been a small amendment to the Academic Appeals Process Requirements to clarify that failure to engage with the Consideration of Personal Circumstances policy because of lack of awareness of timelines or reluctance to divulge personal circumstances is not grounds for an appeal. Extensions to appeal resolution timelines has also been included. Reference to the use of Artificial Intelligence in conducting investigations has been included.

Amendments have been made to the terms of the Student Contract to include additional references to our harassment and sexual misconduct policies; to signpost students to information on requirements for advance payments; to signpost students to information within the fee payment conditions in the event of a withdrawal; additional information on the approach to reasonable adjustments; and information on the right to refer complaints to the Office of the Independent Adjudicator.
