Start up support

It all starts with an idea. But that's not what makes a startup work. You'll need to execute well, and to get the right support when you need it. We can help with that.

The journey from idea to business can be rewarding, challenging, thrilling and maddening all at once. That's why you need people to reach out to on your way.

At NTU Enterprise, we offer a range of business support services designed to assist at every stage, from researching ideas and markets to securing funding and new markets.

What we provide

Man and woman in DEC

What do you need to succeed?

Whether you want to be your own boss, get that side-hustle off the ground, start generating some passive income, or just get a better work-life balance, we can help. Through the HeadStart programme, NTU is supporting local people in Kirkby and Sutton-in-Ashfield to establish new businesses – all you need is an idea and the motivation!

For those located in other areas across Nottingham, we're currently gearing up to relaunch our start up programme at the Dryden Enterprise Centre in 2023. Email enterprise@ntu.ac.uk to register your interest.

NTU Enterprise is offering a 1-day intensive workshop - 'Getting Started with Freelancing' - for those interested in freelancing.

Being a great freelancer is more than being great at working ‘in’ the work you want to do – you need to be great at working ‘on’ your freelancing. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to work ‘on’ your freelancing and prepare yourself so you are best positioned to thrive in the work you want to do.

We can help you work out how to get your business started, or to develop it in innovative ways.

Businesses at all stages of development can access the advice and expertise of partner organisations including The Creative Quarter company, Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham Business School and NTU Enterprise, the University of Derby, Derby QUAD, New Art Exchange, Derby Theatre, NBV Enterprise Solutions, and Nottingham City Council's Growth Hub.

The project is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

We can help you to:

  • Develop a clear social and/or environmental mission
  • Create a sustainable plan that isn't solely reliable on grants
  • Be more accountable and transparent
  • Re-invest profits where they can offer the most impact.
