With more entries than ever before, this year’s On the Cards competition has concluded with two students on our BA (Hons) Graphic Design course winning prizes for their innovative design concepts, and two more being commended for their collections.

First prize in the annual greeting card design competition went to Luna Paszkiewicz, a final year student, for her Emotionally Sustainable card collection. Her unique concept featured illustrations of herbs and vegetables alongside quirky puns, printed on environmentally friendly board.

Luna told us: “I was shocked to be awarded the winning place – I’ve never really believed in myself as an illustrator. It’s definitely given me the confidence to push all my self-doubt aside and chase after my dreams."

Her winning designs will be showcased at Progressive Greetings Live this June – an important industry trade show supported by Progressive Greetings Worldwide, the Greeting Card Association, Paperchase, G . .F.  Smith , and Paper Rose / and The Art Group. Luna will also see her designs put into production and stocked in Paperchase, receive a £400 cash prize, and have the opportunity to undertake a paid internship at Paper Rose / and The Art Group.

Third place went to another of our students, Helen Cooke, for her collection Party Pooches. She will receive a £200 cash prize and money towards a G . F Smith Make Book. Helen commented: “To become a designer in the greetings card industry would be a dream job for me, so to have my work recognised by Paper Rose has given me a huge motivation boost.”

In addition to Luna and Helen, Katie Barker has been highly commended for her collection Blooming Lovely, along with Hannah Butterfield for her Just Kidding collection.

Philippa Phipps, Senior Designer at Paper Rose / and The Art Group, attended the Graphic Design festival day, and presented the awards to the students. She commented: “My company run this annual greeting card competition; it's the fourth year we’ve run it and yet again Nottingham Trent University have produced winners. It is fantastic, we can always rely on them!”
