Blog: Workshop at Nottingham Trent University: Intercultural exchange and creative inspiration

In October 2025, our second project workshop took us to Nottingham. This time, our team members from Germany travelled to Britain, and the event started in an unusual but memorable way: with a Robin Hood city tour. Along with the fascinating insights into Nottingham’s history, we were especially interested in the city’s Linguistic Landscape - the semiotic shaping of the public space. Street art, building names, street signs, murals, plaques, and monuments all encouraged us to reflect on language, identity, and regional narratives. In addition to being informative, the tour was also the perfect warm-up for the tasks that followed.
After this introduction, we dived into the intensive work phase. We discussed our project plans and defined them more clearly, dealt with some of our open questions, and drafted and refined different texts (interview templates, blogposts, and website content) in a collegial and constructive way. A further highlight was our evening playing crazy golf, which was great fun and made for a relaxed atmosphere at the end of the working day. This combination of work and leisure made our time together in Nottingham especially pleasant and strengthened our collaboration.

Im Oktober 2025 führte uns das Projekt nach Nottingham, wo wir uns zum zweiten Workshop trafen. Dieses Mal reiste das Team aus Essen und Münster nach Großbritannien.
Der Workshop begann auf ungewöhnliche, aber inspirierende Weise: mit einer historischen Robin-Hood-Tour durch Nottingham. Neben spannenden Einblicken in die Stadtgeschichte interessierte uns dabei besonders die Linguistic Landscape – also die semiotische Gestaltung des öffentlichen Raums. Streetart, Gebäudebenennungen, Straßenschilder, Wandtexte, touristische Hinweise und Denkmäler boten uns zahlreiche Anknüpfungspunkte, um über Sprache, Identität und regionale Narrative ins Gespräch zu kommen. Die Tour war nicht nur informativ, sondern auch ein ideales Warm-up für die kommenden Arbeitstage.
Nach diesem Einstieg ging es in die intensiven Besprechungs- und Arbeitsphasen. Wir haben unsere Projektplanungen konkretisiert, offene Fragen geklärt und gemeinsam an verschiedenen Texten gearbeitet – etwa an Interviewleitfäden, Blogbeiträgen und Inhalten für die Website. Natürlich kam auch das Zwischenmenschliche nicht zu kurz. Ein Highlight war unser abendliches Indoor-Minigolf, das für viele Lacher und eine entspannte Atmosphäre nach dem Arbeitstag sorgte. Diese Mischung aus Arbeit und Freizeit machte unsere gemeinsame Zeit in Nottingham besonders angenehm und stärkte das Gruppengefühl.
