Employer Guidelines for Advertising Opportunities on MyEmployability

At Nottingham Trent University (NTU), we value the time and expertise employers bring to our students’ development. MyEmployability is our free online platform where you can advertise graduate roles, placements, internships, and part-time opportunities to NTU students and graduates.

To advertise your opportunities, please register or log into NTU MyEmployability

Opportunities We Cannot Advertise

  • Discriminatory vacancies under the Equality Act 2010
  • Vacancies that do not meet the National Minimum Wage (unless genuine volunteering)
  • Unpaid roles not meeting NCVO volunteering criteria
  • Roles unsuitable for students or recent graduates
  • Vacancies with misleading or incomplete descriptions

  • Vacancies based in private homes without agency oversight

Equality, Inclusion and Legal Compliance

We do not advertise vacancies that discriminate against any of the nine protected characteristics. If your vacancy includes a Genuine Occupational Requirement or positive action, you must:

  • Provide evidence and quote the relevant section of the Equality Act
  • Confirm that the advert is lawful and explain how it meets the legal criteria

We support employers who promote opportunities for students from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds and are committed to inclusive recruitment and social mobility.

Placements and Unpaid Opportunities

Sandwich Placements which do not exceed 52 weeks are legally exempt from the National Minimum Wage (NMW) legislation. However, we believe all placements/work experience/internships should be paid at least the NMW.

  • The university will make our expectation clear to prospective and current employers
  • The university will promote unpaid placements/work experience that are a required part of the course

Unpaid Short Placements (less than 36 weeks)

  • Where placements are a professional/statutory requirement, such as in teacher training, social work and vet nursing, they are unpaid.
  • Where the placement exceeds two weeks and the student is undertaking a real job, unless otherwise stated, the university will encourage payment, as well as travel and other expenses.

Recruitment Agencies and Intermediaries

  • Client company names must be included (can be hidden from students)
  • If the company is promoting the opportunity with us directly, we will not advertise the agencies’ role
  • Graduate roles with agencies are reviewed under our vacancy policy
  • We reserve the right to decline agency attendance at fairs or events
  • The university reserves the right to decline expressions of interest from Recruitment Agencies to attend the fairs
