Nottingham Trent University Sustainability Challenge

We're proud to have worked with students from across Kenya on the NTU Sustainability Challenge.

This competition ran from September 2024 - February 2025. You can find out more about the competition and who won on this page.

The Challenge

Are you passionate about sustainability issues? Would you like to work as a team to tackle a major sustainability issue facing your local community?

We are delighted to announce that NTU are launching a school sustainability challenge. If your currently in your final 2 years of secondary school, we would love for you to get involved.

NTU would like your project group of three to focus on a sustainability challenge facing the world right now, explaining how communities in Kenya could help overcome this issue.

You can use approaches from one of the following fields of study: International Relations, Sociology, or Psychology.

Why should I get involved?

Winners of the Challenge

The standard of competition was high, and the participants’ passion for sustainability was clear. The university panel carefully reviewed all the submissions. The teams at NTU came to Kenya to announce the winners of the competition.

The winners, in order, were:

  • Green Guardians – Aga Khan Nairobi School
  • Team CMC – Light Academy School
  • Powerpuff Girls – Oshwal High School

Reflecting on the experience, one of the winners Namasvi Jani said “The project taught us a lot about waste and the issues faced by our country and enabled us to look at solutions and what we can do as individuals to solve them.”
