Overview

Design Matter is a product design research group, based at Nottingham Trent University, that undertake product design projects for commercial clients in a wide range of industries including medical, capital equipment, transport, point of sale, homewares, apparel and telecommunications.

Research Aims


The group aims to serve the needs of their clients by delivering well designed, sustainable products for their clients that are desirable to the target market, whilst being commercially viable, highly functional and fully meeting the requirements of the client’s design brief.

Related staff

Staffed by design practitioners and design academics, the group has expertise in design for a wide array of manufacturing techniques, materials and assembly methods whilst being highly skilled and knowledgeable in all aspects of the design process.

This includes generation of a design specification, the creation of innovative concepts, iterative deign using the latest 3D CAD and rapid prototyping technology (including additive manufacturing/3D printing). Design for manufacture and assembly, generation of manufacturing data and identifying and building relationships with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure control of the design process up to the point of final production.
