Head of Further Education at the school of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences (ARES) at Brackenhurst, Southwell.

Career overview

Eileen has worked in Further Education for over thirty years.

Her career started in horticulture at Askham Bryan College, a land-based college in York. Eileen also holds a BSc Hons degree in Biology and Environmental Sciences from the University of Derby and was awarded the Ede and Ravenscroft prize for her studies.

Prior to joining NTU, Eileen served in a senior leadership position as the Head of College (land-based campus) and Assistant Principal at the Derby College Group, a large Further Education college and as the Director of Quality Enhancement at Landex (Land-based Colleges Aspiring to Excellence). Eileen has worked with the 39 land-based member Colleges and Universities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland supporting the membership to provide an outstanding experience for their students and supporting the Landex leadership programmes. 

Eileen was awarded the Butler Trust Prize from HRH The Princess Royal at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace for her work in developing horticultural courses for the Probation Service. Eileen also trained as an inspector for the Adult Learning Inspectorate.

Research areas

Eileen has carried out research into Earthworm populations and activity on Conventional and Organic Farmland in the UK.

External activity

Eileen has worked with Landex to undertake Peer Reviews for land-based colleges and universities in the UK in an advisory role. Eileen has also worked with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) as a Judge for Britain In Bloom & Green fingers Challenge competitions.
