Role
Dr Sarah Broadberry is an Associate Professor in Teaching and Scholarship and holds the position of Academic and Professional Practice Manager in the Centre for Academic Development and Quality (CADQ). As the strategic lead for the Trent Institute of Learning and Teaching (TILT), she is dedicated to advancing scholarship development across all career stages, aligning with both the university’s objectives and the professional growth of her colleagues. Sarah is institutional lead for the Professional Recognition Scheme (Fellowship) and oversees the University’s academic practice development programs for new colleagues, the Academic Professional Apprenticeship (APA) and Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGCLTHE).
Career overview
Sarah has over twenty years’ of academic experience and is an award-winning lecturer. She previously held the positions of Student Academic Experience Manager, and Learning and Teaching Manager within the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences. Committed to fostering a supportive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment, she brings this ethos to her role in CADQ. She completed her PhD in equine nutrition at NTU in 2007, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) in 2008. Her career has transitioned from animal science to strategic leadership in higher education, completing an MA in Educational Leadership and Management in 2025. Sarah was an early adopter of team-based learning at NTU and as an experienced team-based learning practitioner, was instrumental in the successful roll out of the institutional team-based learning pilot. Sarah is a strategic lead of the sector-wide Supporting Programme Leader Development Network.
Research areas
Sarah has supervised research dissertations at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Her areas of research interest include emerging professional identity in undergraduate students, the value of course leadership to the student experience and outcomes, team-based learning, and the value of Advance HE Fellowship to third-space professionals.
