Role

Kathryn Coates teaches on the BA (hons) Graphic Design course. She is involved with the delivery of a wide range of subjects on the Graphics degree, working primarily with Level One and Level Three students. Alongside her teaching responsibilities, she organises the courses guest speakers programme with her colleague Andy Ellison and is involved with forging and maintaining strong links with industry and organisations such as the ISTD, D&AD, AOI and YCN.

Research areas

As part on her continued professional development, Kathryn is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education.

External activity

Kathryn joined the University in January 2008. Prior to this she was based in London and worked for The Times Supplements as their Deputy Head of Design (1995 until 2006). She then took over the role of Art Editor for The Times Higher, which she held until she joined Nottingham Trent University. Alongside her editorial responsibilities, Kathryn forged strong links with illustrators she commissioned and was a judge for the Association of Illustrators’ Annual Awards.
