Role

I am a senior lecturer in visual communication for fashion, teaching across all years on a range of courses within the Fashion Management, Marketing and Communications subject area at NTU. I am currently a level leader and module leader at level 5 undergraduate, a level 6 course tutor, live project tutor and personal tutor for Fashion Communication and Promotion. I also teach into the Collaborative modules as well as teaching in the optional modules on the MA and providing dissertation supervision also at the Masters level.

Career overview

Before joining NTU I worked as a freelance graphic design and illustrator for over a decade, then becoming a studio manager for a design agency. I have also worked across a range of HE and FE institutions before joining NTU full time in 2006.

Research areas

My research and practice are based in independent print publishing, specialising in zine culture. Since 2010 I have been running Raw Print, a platform which celebrates and champions independent print through zines and magazines. I have working on research-informed publishing projects with students, underpinning projects with the practice Zine Therapy, improving mindfulness and wellbeing for students. Current zine projects and workshops have been in collaboration with NTU Student Support and NTU Join, providing positive and creative outlets to support and promote better mental health through making and reading zines.

Raw Print also includes an archive of zines and magazines within FMMC, and the NTU Zine Collection in the Boots Library.

External activity

Externally we help support and run the Notts Zine Library at the Nottingham Contemporary, as well as external publishing projects such as RIP Zine, Metazine and Sculptorvox. Raw Print also assists in hosting events such as workshops, live lectures within the city of Nottingham and the annual Notts Zine Fest at Rough Trade Nottingham. I also co-run Crate Mags an independent pop-up magazine shop.
