Career overview

Film and Audio Production Technician, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, London

  • I developed a taught unit to Technical Theatre students on the principles of filmmaking, covering all aspects of working on a film set. This was in preparation for the students to work alongside professionals as the final year actor’s shot their final short films.
  • I taught the Acting students about all aspects of a working set, giving them the knowledge and understanding so that Actors and crew work in collaboration. I also taught them the language of film and production techniques that aid storytelling.
  • I managed, maintained and purchased all camera, lighting and media in relation to filmmaking.
  • I developed and maintained relationships with film hire companies and post-production houses.
  • I was the Technical Producer on the six short films that are produced every year which showcase the graduating Actors. Films that I have been directly involved with have been selected and won numerous awards, including the Cannes Short Film Festival.
  • I was responsible for some of the external marketing material, including shooting and editing promotional material.

  • For courses that teach screen acting, I helped facilitate multi-camera setups using ATEM and Blackmagic Design control software and hardware creating black box spaces into a film studio environment.
  • I worked with directors and DOPs on various short films and showreels in a professional and organising role on the BA Acting and MA Acting for Screen courses.

I have also worked as a wedding and reportage photographer, a videographer and have worked as crew on numerous short film productions.

Research areas

I worked on a large-scale Research Project as part of a Collaboration with Royal Central School of Speech and Drama entitled “The Legacy of Space”. This was a documentary feature film in which I collaborated with Claudette Williams, now Head of Acting at RCSSD about the history of the Embassy Theatre, London (where Central is now based) and its relation to Black Theatre and culture. The Embassy was home to a series of plays which starred Paul Robeson and the documentary explores the impact that the Theatre had on black culture within Theatre and the Arts around that time. The documentary was co-directed, shot, and edited by myself. The project began in the Spring of 2019 and was completed in the Autumn of 2022.
