Role

Sara was appointed as the Professional Services Member on the Board of Governors in July 2021. Sara is a Student Services Manager (Development and Operations) in Student Support Services.

She started her career at NTU in April 1989 in the Faculty of Engineering as a clerk/typist and has had a long and varied career working in Professional Services within academic schools such as the Business School, Law School and an early incarnation of the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment, as well as within central services, including Academic Registry.

Sara completed both the LLB (H) Bachelor of Laws and the Legal Practice Course (LPC) by part-time study at NTU. In 2021 she completed the NTU Leadership Programme and Advance HE Aurora Women in Leadership scheme. In January 2021 she became the Co-Chair of the Women’s Staff Network (WSN). She is a member of, and mentor with the Association of University Administrators (AUA), as well as a member of the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM) and Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Sara has extensive governor experience across both the primary and secondary school sector, as well as further education at Bilborough Sixth Form College. Governor roles have included vice-chair of full governing body, chair of an audit committee, governor with special responsibility for health and safety and link governor to academic subjects ranging from Economics, Business Studies, Drama, Music and PE.

Sara is passionate about excellent customer service and the student experience. She regards herself as a positive-realist with the mantra of ‘live by the list’. Sara is a keen reader and member of a reading group. She is a theatre lover, particularly of musicals, and also a film buff. Sara is mum to a daughter whose main hobby is cheerleading, so spends much of her time travelling around UK arenas attending competitions.
