Role

Mark is a Senior Lecturer within the Accounting and Finance Department at Nottingham Business School (NBS).  He holds the following qualifications: ACA, MBA and a MSc. In Pure Mathematics

He started teaching at NTU on a part-time basis in 2013, mixing this role with his on-going responsibilities as the Financial Director of a local construction company. In 2015 Mark joined the academic mentoring team working on the personalisation project within the Business School. He joined as a full-time staff in 2016 combining his role of academic mentor with that of senior lecturer specialising in teaching Management Accounting to undergraduate and MBA students. He is the module leader for a second year Management Accounting module.

Career overview

Before joining NTU, Mark worked in various financial roles after becoming a qualified chartered accountant and member of the Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1987. From 1999 to 2016 he was the Financial Director for 2 highly successful medium sized construction companies based in the East Midlands (UK)

Research areas

Mark has just submitted his PhD thesis which researched the use of Advanced Management Accounting (AMA) techniques in East Midlands (UK) based medium sized construction companies. In particular the relationship between the successful growth of these companies and their use of AMA techniques.

External activity

Since 2013 Mark has sat on the board of a local BAME housing association. That role is tasked in ensuring that the executives of the organisation comply with all the regulations of the Homes and Communities Agency the main regulation of the not for profit housing sector. He is the chair of the Audit & Risk Committee overseeing the internal and external audit function together with the risk management of the organisation
