Simon Taylor is a Lecturer in Management.

Career overview

Using his experiences in Leadership and Management, Simon moved into teaching in the Higher Education sector as well as working as a strategy consultant with not for profit and charity sectors. He is currently an L7 Independent Assessor, as well as a Chair of a music charity supporting a large number of students with their instrumental development and skills.  He is an advisor to the Derbyshire Music Hub on Teaching and Learning.

Having Graduated from NBS in 1993, Simon went straight into the rail industry, supporting and managing train drivers who had endured track deaths as well as working with a research team investigating crowd movement.

Simon returned to Nottingham Trent to complete a PGCE in Business and Economic Education and spent the next 25 years in education, twenty of them in senior roles as well as support functions for the DFE and the National College for School Leadership.  He has been a CEO and Non-Executive Director for several organisations between 2008 and 2018.  He was also a designated education leader across the East Midlands and has worked across all sectors improving the outcomes of students and families facing significant social disadvantage and behavioural challenges.  He is a qualified Head Teacher (National Professional Qualification for Headteachers) and a Local Leader of Education (LLE). Simon also holds an LRSM, is a qualified Coach and has taught across a range of leadership and management qualifications.

Simon’s experience and interests are in organisational improvement and strategy, together with consultancy, developing formal and informal groups in organisations, learning organisations and conflict management.  He is particularly interested in the impact of long-term multiple deprivations on social mobility and progression.

Research areas

Simon is exploring the effects of long-term multiple deprivations on social mobility, progression and decision making. He is also researching 'The Social Value of Postgraduate qualification experiences and there contributions to SDGs.'
