Role

David leads the apprenticeship business development team at NTU who promote the benefits of apprenticeships to local employers. The team work closely with NTU's central marketing team and apprenticeship leads in academic schools to ensure that marketing and business development activity is effectively planned and enables apprenticeship planning targets to be met annually.  David also works with colleagues in the Research & Knowledge Exchange to ensure that apprenticeships are a part of externally funded project work and represents NTU in a number of external local skills forums helping to ensure the NTU Apprenticeship offer caters for employer skills needs.  David is the NTU Apprenticeship Levy Lead where he supports NTU colleague development through the apprenticeship programmes.

Career overview

David's early career was spent in the leisure entertainment industry, where he spent 10 years working in various management positions for FTSE 100 companies, but always with a people training focus.  In the late 90's he moved into the further education sector, where he spent 16 years, initially as a teacher/lecturer gaining experience of teaching levels 1 - 6, then moving into curriculum leadership and management.  The last 9 years of this period were spent as a senior leader and part of the executive leadership team leading the marketing, adult skills and employer engagement activities of one of the largest FE College's in England.  Prior to joining NTU David spent 7 years running his own international educational consultancy, working with partners across Europe and North America to promote excellence in vocational and technical education.

David has a BA (Hons) Degree in Management from Southampton, a PGCert in Education from Nottingham Trent and a Masters of Business Administration from Nottingham Business School.

External activity

David is a part of the DfE led national Apprenticeship Ambassador Network. He is also a member of a number of local Education and Skills Boards representing the interests of the University at these forums.

David regularly presents at local and national events promoting the virtues and benefits of apprenticeships and the work of NTU in this area.
