Role
Matt’s main areas of work are around supporting the development of primary and secondary mathematics teachers as part of the Nottingham Trent University PGCEs. In addition Matt has led the NTU Secondary School Centred Initial Teacher Training partnership, and developed the mathematics teacher apprenticeship programme.
Career overview
Matt has worked in a number of schools across the East Midlands as both a teacher and as an assistant head of a large secondary school. He also led one of the government funded Mathematics Hubs working with institutions across the school phases. Before joining Nottingham Trent University to lead the mathematics PGCE programme Matt developed an Education Endowment Foundation funded trial of mathematics resources for post-16 learners.
Research areas
Matt's PhD is in mathematics teacher professional development designed to help teachers determine their response to pedagogical practices through a modified form of lesson study.
External activity
Matt is part of the strategic board of the Collaborative Lesson Research organisation.
Matt chairs the strategic board of the local East Midlands East mathematics hubs.
Matt is the convenor for the BERA mathematics special interest group.
