Career overview

Harps joined Nottingham Law School in October 2025, having previously worked at another university as a lecturer and a supervising solicitor in a role focussed on clinical legal education.

Prior to this she worked in a variety of roles in private practice having trained as a solicitor at a small civil liberties law firm in London. She specialised in civil and public law actions against public bodies in the criminal justice system and in inquest law. She also gained some experience in working on public inquiries and has a range of experience as an advocate. In 2019, she took a short career break before starting work at Southwark Law Centre (part of the Law Centres Network) on a pioneering project providing planning, public and housing law advice to the community in inner London. This project primarily focussed on providing a voice, and some resistance where necessary, to large scale gentrification projects in the city.

Harps is interested in how the law can be learnt, practiced and developed to advance the rights of disadvantaged and marginalised communities.
