Role
Dr Ryan Martin Cushley-Spendiff is a Lecturer at Nottingham Law School, Nottingham Trent University. He is attached to the Centre for Business and Insolvency Law.
Dr Cushley-Spendiff is module leader for Critical Legal Thinking, Contract (PGDL), Law In Action, and Governance Ethics and the Law. He also teaches on Corporate Social Responsibility at masters level.
Dr Cushley-Spendiff is the Associate editor of the Nottingham Law Journal and the Journal for Rights and Justice, along with being the Digital Marketing Manager for The Law School Blog.
Career overview
Prior to Nottingham Trent, Dr Cushley-Spendiff completed his PhD at Lancaster University in 2022, entitled The Quixotism of a Relationally Constituted Contract Law. While at Lancaster he was also an Assistant Dean for Lonsdale College at Lancaster University.
He joined Nottingham Trent as a Research Assistant and Hourly Paid Lecturer in 2022 before becoming a full time lecturer in 2023.
Research areas
Dr Cushley-Spendiff’s research interests include: Contract Law, Jurisprudence, International Commercial Law, Corporate Governance (both domestic and international), and Artificial Intelligence in commercial settings.
Dr Cushley-Spendiff is currently working on research areas synthesising social issues with commercial legal theory. He recently presented a paper on Exorcism and Relational Contract, and is working towards a paper on Commercial Governance in relation to LGBT+ exploitation. He is also interested in the legal aspects of the Video-Game industry and commercial behaviour in this market.
