Beverley’s role of Principal Lecturer in Biomedical Science involves managing a team of research and practice-focused staff within the Department of Biosciences. She is also departmental lead for courses provision of biomedical science at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and has been involved in or led on the development of several new courses, most recently BSc Applied Biomedical Science (degree apprenticeship). Beverley also leads on the accreditation of Biomedical Science courses by professional bodies such as the Institute of Biomedical Science and is Course Leader for BSc Biomedical Science.
As Educational Lead for the Department, Beverley works with the Head of Department and other Senior Members of the team on educational strategy as well as leading on the management of academic workload and planning within the department. Beverley is also Practice Development Group Lead for the Department, Chair of the Departmental Teaching and Assessment Working Group and teaches in the subject areas of Haematology, Transfusion Science and Professional Practice.
Prior to her most recent role of Principal Lecturer in Biomedical Science (2014-present), Beverley was Senior Lecturer and Clinical Tutor in Biomedical Science at Nottingham Trent University (2006-2014). Beverley entered academia after a ten years with the NHS, working mainly in Clinical Haematology and Transfusion Practice with some experience also in Clinical Biochemistry. During this time she has worked as a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist at the Royal Derby Hospital and as a Senior Biomedical Scientist/Team Leader at Nottingham University Hospitals.
Beverley is an active Fellow Member of the Institute of Biomedical Science. She is an Academic Panel Member for degree accreditations held by the IBMS and is a trained External Verifier and Assessor for IBMS qualifications. Beverley is also a degree assessor for the Institute.
Other external activities include several external examiner roles, including positions at Chester University and Manchester Metropolitan. Beverley is also an external panel member for course validations.
