Education

NTU is proud to work in partnership with West Nottinghamshire College to deliver integrated further education/higher education pathways that meet the current and future skills needs of the area.

Students at Mansfield

The range of NTU programmes offered spans technical qualifications, degree programmes and apprenticeships, based at the NTU Mansfield Hub on the college site. Many students are local learners who go on to apply their skills to their careers in the local area.

Other educational support for the region includes the Getting Ready programme, currently in phase 1 development with a primary school in Mansfield. The programme aims to build the life skills and cultural capital of pupils from early years through to GCSEs by empowering parents and communities.

Accessing Higher Education

There is a clear pathway to studying a full degree at NTU for those who complete foundation courses at the Mansfield Hub. One student who has benefitted from this is Mansfield resident Alin Chiper, who is currently completing a the third year of a business degree at NTU, having transferred from the Mansfield Hub after completing a foundation course.

Getting children ready for school

The Getting… Ready programme spans everything from beginning early years education right up to transitioning from full time education to the world of work. The first two components are Getting School Ready, which focuses on the skills early years children need for literacy and numeracy when they go to primary school and Getting Secondary Ready, which focuses on the transition from primary to secondary school – a key point in ensuring pupils stay on track and sets the foundations for better attainment.

Preparing young people for work

The Getting Work Ready project aims to ensure that pupils across Ashfield and Mansfield have the skills and experiences employers need for the modern economy. It’s phase three of the Getting Ready Programme, and is based on the ongoing work of the Mansfield and Ashfield Education and Skills Group, which has undertaken research with educators and businesses in the community to identify opportunities to raise educational standards and develop skills across the area
