Open to students, staff and community members, our award-winning Big Band is a relaxed and friendly ensemble which meets weekly on NTU's City Campus to rehearse.

This activity is open to NTU students, staff and community members.

If you're looking to play swing and jazz as part of a large and friendly ensemble, our Big Band is the ideal fit. Led by East Midlands-based musician Pete Wraight, you'll meet weekly to learn new pieces and practice those already in the band's repertoire, and have the opportunity to perform at our Big Band Live events.

Is there an audition?
Depending on numbers, rhythm section players may be auditioned.

What experience do I need?
You should be able to play your instrument and sight read to around Grade 6 standard, but you don't need to have taken exams.

Yearly cost:

  • £20 NTU students (free for NTU Bursary holders)
  • £40 NTU staff and alumni
  • £80 community members

Drop into your first rehearsal and if you'd like to join the band, our music team will give you information about membership.

Need an instrument?
If you're an NTU student or staff member and would like to come along but don't have an instrument, contact the Music team to find out what's available to use or hire.
