On Monday 17 June 2024, Nottingham Law School’s Centre for Rights and Justice will be holding its annual Flashpoints conference exploring themes which ignite debate in the field of Law, Human Rights, Religion and Belief.

Event details

This year we are especially encouraging presentations linked to heritage, culture and memory. However, submissions outside of this, but within the broad conference theme remain warmly welcome.

The conference will be an in-person event, although we may be able to accommodate a small number of remote presentations. If you wish to be considered for a remote slot, please let us know as soon as possible.

Please see below details for submitting a proposal. As always, we adopt a broad and inclusive approach to our conference theme, and welcome contributors with academic backgrounds other than law.

To submit a proposal

  • Please email you proposed title and an abstract of no more than 150 words to helen.hall@ntu.ac.uk
  • There is no requirement to produce a written paper and we do not publish conference proceedings. However, if you wish to do so, you are very welcome to submit an article based on your presentation to either the Nottingham Law Journalor the Journal of Rights and Justice.  

Planning your presentation

  • Presentations will be 15 minutes long with 5 minutes for questions at the end.
  • If you wish to use a Powerpoint presentation, please bring indicate this when submitting your proposal. If you are using slides and attending in person, please bring your presentation saved on a USB drive.

Registration for the conference

  • There is no registration fee.

Food and Refreshments

  • There will be a light lunch, as well as tea and coffee provided for those attending in person. All food will be vegetarian or vegan, and labelled appropriately, but if you have any special dietary requirements not covered by this, please indicate this on your registration form.
  • As always, there will be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to join a group going out informally for a pizza in the evening, after the conference has concluded. There is no need to book in advance, you will be able to sign up on the day.
