Students in the first year of our BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion course are showcasing new work in the Bonington Atrium this March. The full Year One cohort, made up of 153 students, responded to the theme ‘Objects of Desire’, and have generated 108 images in 36 teams which will be gathered together in the exhibition.

Each team was given an accessory as a starting point; spanning cosmetics, perfume, bags, shoes and sunglasses. They were then challenged to tell a story through the accessory, by thinking resourcefully and sourcing props and imagery.

Drawing on key conceptual words developed through a previous research task on innovative editorial photography, the students generated ideas through sketches and storyboards. They then used extensive Photoshop tools to post-produce their photographs, revealing a diverse and innovative range of interpretations.

The student responses demonstrate the immense creativity emanating from our FCP course. Shoot locations varied from buses to bowling alleys, with many works produced taking a bold, outspoken and highly creative approach.

Students studying FCP at Nottingham Trent University fuse design and theory to explore how global brands communicate their messages across platforms. They develop visual communication skills spanning photography, styling, art direction, graphics and print design, film and interactive media. Students go on to secure roles in branding, advertising, digital and social media, visual merchandising, events, experimental marketing and more.

The ‘Objects of Desire’ exhibition will be on display in the Bonington Atrium on the City Campus from Tuesday 13 March until Thursday 29 March 2018.
