Eurovia UK supports NTU Construction students with their Building Information Modelling expertise

Construction Management and Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management students recently benefitted from industry input from Eurovia Contracting’s Digital Construction Manager, Philip Reid, and team in the form of tailored BIM content.

As part of their Construction Technology module, second year students were introduced to BIM through a range of activities used to illustrate its benefits and use in industry.

Philip produced several videos outlining Eurovia’s approach to BIM in accordance with the ISO19650 standard. Videos include topics such as how 3D models and drone images help improve safety, quality and productivity, as well as examples from recently completed projects within the Contracting business.

Module leader David Jones, Senior Lecturer in Construction Management, and Anja Reid, Eurovia UK’s Student/Graduate Scheme Manager, have worked together to allow Eurovia to help translate the theory of BIM to live examples from Eurovia Contracting sites.

David Jones said “[This content is] … just what I was after. I think it will really help to start to link [students] basic understanding of what BIM is to how it can be used in many different ways – and the different reasons for using it. I like the way you link to people working on site / coordinating works – I spend most my time telling our [students] that BIM is not just for designing buildings.”
