We're excited to announce a dynamic collaboration between Nottingham Trent University and Nottingham Panthers Ice Hockey Club.

This partnership will transform the link between academia and professional sports to benefit both organisations. NTU Sport Science and Management students will gain valuable hands-on experience in a professional sports setting, combining practical application with their studies. It will offer students first-hand experience, developing skills applicable across a range of careers.

For the Nottingham Panthers, the collaboration brings academic expertise, cutting-edge facilities, and fresh perspectives to enhance team performance and operations.

Nottingham Panthers' Player Jordan Kelsall stated:

"Having access to the expertise and facilities at NTU will help optimise our performance and reduce injury risk. It's a great opportunity for us to inspire and mentor the next generation of sports professionals".

An NTU Sport Science Associate Professor Ian Varley added:

"We are thrilled to partner with the Nottingham Panthers. This initiative not only underscores our commitment to providing experiential learning opportunities, it also demonstrates how a university and professional sports can work together to achieve mutual success".

A winning partnership

The collaboration between NTU and the Nottingham Panthers focuses on six key areas, combining what students learn on the course with real-world experience:

Strength and Conditioning Training

The Nottingham Panthers will have access to NTU's cutting-edge sports facilities for their strength and conditioning sessions. NTU sport science students will play an active role, assisting with these sessions, gaining hands-on experience in optimising player performance and recovery.

Performance and Health Profiling

NTU staff and students will regularly assess the physiological and biomechanical performance of the Panthers' players. These profiling sessions are designed to enhance player health and ensure peak performance throughout the season.

Student Shadowing and Work Experience

Students will have the unique opportunity to shadow the Panthers' sports science and medical teams. They'll participate in testing, injury prevention protocols, and rehabilitation sessions, gaining invaluable real-world exposure to the demands of a professional sports environment.

Commercial and Marketing Experience

The collaboration extends beyond the rink. Selected students will work with the Panthers' marketing team, applying their sport science knowledge to develop commercial strategies. They'll help create marketing initiatives, analyse market trends, and promote the team's brand, gaining experience in the business side of sports.

Performance Analysis Support

NTU students will provide performance analysis support, including game video reviews, statistical analysis, and strategic feedback for coaches and players. These sessions aim to deliver insights that refine team strategy and player development.

Research Opportunities

Together, NTU and the Nottingham Panthers are committed to exploring joint research opportunities. This collaboration will foster innovative solutions that benefit both academic and athletic fields.
