This exciting degree enables you to combine your study of Law with Journalism modules delivered by Nottingham Trent University’s highly regarded Centre for Broadcasting & Journalism. You will study the legal context of journalism and gain practical multimedia skills.
Law is a varied and intellectually stimulating subject that affects every part of our lives. If you are curious about how society is regulated, enjoy solving problems, have a keen eye for detail and an interest in current affairs and journalism, then this course is for you.
This Qualifying Law Degree has a professional focus and you will gain key transferable skills in both Law and Journalism. You will study the relationship between Law and Journalism, exploring the legal rules controlling media coverage and the legal and ethical framework of journalistic regulation within the UK. You will also gain the writing and production skills that multimedia journalists require with the chance to put these skills into practice in your final year.
The journalism modules are taught by Nottingham Trent University's highly-regarded Centre for Broadcasting and Journalism. You will benefit from their outstanding facilities, including one of the largest student newsrooms in the UK, a TV studio with production facilities, three radio studios and a photographic production area. The combination of professional skills will provide an excellent basis for a variety of careers.

If you complete your LLB with us and gain a 2.2 or above, we will guarantee you a place on our excellent LLM Legal Practice Course for intending solicitors. If you are interested in a career as a barrister there is also the opportunity to progress on to our highly-regarded LLM Bar Professional Training Course.

Work placement and career development opportunities
Our skills-focused modules have been designed to reflect the latest in professional practice in both Law and Journalism and all of our courses have a strong focus on commercial awareness and career planning. For those who wish to pursue a legal career there is the final year Path to Professional Practice option which provides a transition to the next stage of legal training.
All students in the Law School can also gain a Certificate in Professional Practice and voluntary pro bono experience.
What are my employability prospects?
A Law degree is highly valued and provides an excellent foundation for a variety of careers. You can progress on to further legal training and the wide range of transferable skills you will acquire as part of this degree will make you attractive to a variety of employers. Along with your legal skills you will gain audio and video reporting skills, multi-platform portfolio work and news production skills, relevant to a number of journalistic roles and the growing publishing industry in the legal profession.
You could also follow in the footsteps of many previous graduates who have established successful careers in local government, the NHS, the civil service, management, marketing, finance and public relations.
In today's competitive job market work experience is a valuable addition to your education. You'll gain vital real-life skills that will make you stand out from the crowd and enhance your employability.
All students are encouraged to obtain relevant work experience during the vacations. If you undertake at least ten weeks' relevant work experience this will be recognised by our Certificate in Professional Practice. This qualification demonstrates you have developed practical skills and work-based competencies. You will be responsible for organising your own placements with the support of the University. You will receive an introduction to the Certificate and advice on securing placements in the first year.
You can also work towards the University's Acceler8 Employability Award which has been designed to provide formal recognition for everything you achieve outside of your studies.
